As he prepares to take office, Donald Trump is openly musing about privatizing the Postal Service. Influential Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Elon Musk are cheering on the idea.
If Republicans take such a drastic step, they'll be screwing over millions of Americans – especially in rural areas – who depend on the Postal Service for essential mail, including medication. We'd almost certainly see rates go up (likely by a lot!), reduced service offerings, and narrowed delivery schedules.
Such changes would hit Midwestern communities especially hard. So we're determined to mobilize and drive home the warning about just how harmful and destructive the privatization of the Postal Service would be.
This will be one of the defining policy fights of 2025. It offers Democrats a chance to show that they stand on the side of working families, and against unjust policies that will only increase the cost of living.
But we're going to be up against a formidable right-wing messaging apparatus – one that reaches across cable news and social media. We need to be aggressive and creative when it comes to defending the Post Office.
