Just before the holidays, Congressional conservatives stripped an important hunger-fighting provision from the national budget deal:
reimbursements for SNAP theft.

Hundred of thousands of SNAP recipients have been victims of sophisticated skimming scams that steal benefits directly from their EBT cards. According to CNN ([link removed]) , “states have replaced more than $150 million in benefits stolen from more than 300,000 low-income SNAP households across the country.”

Now, many families who fall victim to these scams will have no recourse, and no way to recoup those benefits. Hunger Free America is already gearing up to fight to get the next Congress to restore these replacement benefits, and to oppose even deeper potential cuts in food assistance.
