The silencing by lawfare of VDARE.com after 25 years of the website's thoughtful and well-informed commentary on the National Question https://www.johnderbyshire.com/Opinions/NationalQuestion/williams.html has been a mighty blow to freedom of speech in the U.S.A.

As Peter Brimelow has pointed out https://vdare.com/ , VDARE has not been charged with anything. "The process has been the punishment"; but punishment for WHAT? For airing opinions the Attorney General of New York State does not agree with, that's what -- that's exactly and precisely what.

A good portion of the shame here belongs to the lesser judicial authorities of this state, who have done nothing to curtail the A-G's abuses or to defend VDARE's free-speech rights. These judicial cowards and seat-warmers have made a joke of the First Amendment. I spit on them all.

Yes, I'm mad about it. Not only has VDARE.com made useful contributions to public debate, the VDARE Foundation has treated contributors to the website with unfailing fairness and generosity. I can testify personally to that, having received a monthly stipend for my own contributions from 2015 until the website's suspension in July this year.

As well as being an insult to the First Amendment, the silencing of VDARE.com has been a blow to me and my family -- much less important in the larger scheme of things, to be sure, but painful none the less.

However, although VDARE.com has suspended its postings, the VDARE Foundation is still functioning. It is, for example, hoping to hold a conference at the Berkeley Springs Castle in spring 2025. I shall of course be there, and hope to meet my readers, listeners https://www.johnderbyshire.com/Opinions/RadioDerb/page.html and supporters there.
