We’re facing a critical moment at The American Prospect. With just a few hours left in 2024, we're still short of our year-end fundraising goal. This has been a year where independent journalism hasn’t just been important – it's been absolutely essential.

In 2024, our special issue on how prices really work led to an FTC investigation over surveillance pricing. Our article, How Secret ‘Bondage Fees’ Trap Contracted Workers in Low-Wage Jobs, directly resulted in new legislation in Minnesota to increase wages for workers. And we were among the first outlets to notive the rise of Dan Osborn’s surprising U.S. Senate run in Nebraska, profiling him all the way back in April. Just recently, we deftly exposed how Elon Musk’s business interests in China are influencing politics here at home.

With so much at stake, 2025 is not the time to slow down. From the Trump administration's assault on the free press to Elon Musk and the billionaire class's undue influence on our political system, we need to produce more hard-hitting journalism and analysis from our distinct point of view. We can’t stop now and we need your help to close 2024 strong.

We don't just report the news; we expose the systems and structures that shape our society, often in ways that remain hidden from view. We show how monopoly power, financial engineering, and political corruption work together to undermine the common good.

But I'll be blunt: we can't continue this work without your support. Major media corporations have corporate advertisers or billionaire owners. We have you.
This year, we’ve seen attacks on press freedom, massive layoffs across the media industry, and increasing concentration of news outlets in the hands of a few powerful corporations. The American Prospect remains one of the few truly independent voices examining how power works in America.

Right now, we need to raise $75,000 before midnight on December 31st to maintain our current level of investigative reporting. Your tax-deductible contribution will directly fund:
  • Deep investigative projects that often take months to complete
  • A critical look at Trump 2.0, covering the corruption and cruelty of the new administration
  • Coverage of the labor movement's resurgence and the fight for workers' rights
  • Our unique reporting on financial regulation and corporate power
  • Training the next generation of journalists through our writing fellows program

Here’s what makes this moment especially critical: a generous donor has stepped forward with a matching gift offer. Every dollar you contribute will be doubled until we reach our goal.

I know there are many worthy causes asking for your support right now. But I believe The American Prospect’s role in our democracy is essential. We’re not just covering the news—we’re exposing the hidden mechanisms of power that shape our society and economy.

Will you stand with us? Make a tax-deductible donation before midnight on December 31st, and help us continue our vital work in 2025.

Thank you for being part of The American Prospect community. Your support makes our work possible.

With gratitude,

Mitchell Grummon
