The suspect could be seen running through backyards and jumping over fences while being followed by the spotlight from Los Angeles Police Department's helicopter that was also over the pursuit. At around 11:10 p.m., one of the residents tackled the man, throwing him to the ground. A second man jumped in and helped the first hold the suspect down until an LAPD officer arrived with what looked to be a Taser drawn. The suspect was arrested without further incident. CBS 2 NYPD statistics report record number of officer injuries in 2024 The NYPD recorded an alarming 4,600 injuries to officers at the hands of violent suspects in the first nine months of 2024, marking the highest total since the department began tracking such data in 2016, the New York Post reported. This figure represents a 13% increase from the 4,077 officer injuries reported during the same period in 2023 and a 60% rise from the 2,886 injuries logged in 2021, according to the report. Between April and June, 1,640 officers were injured, the most ever recorded in a single quarter. The subsequent three months saw an additional 1,618 injuries, the second-highest quarterly figure. While most injuries (4,285) were classified as minor, 192 required hospital treatment and 123 were severe enough to warrant hospital admission, according to the report. “Far too many routine calls are turning into all-out brawls and the reason is obvious: our justice system keeps releasing the same violent, repeat offenders, and they keep attacking cops when we try to lock them up again,” Police Benevolent Association president Patrick Hendry stated. As of Dec. 23, 514 kits remain untested, according to the release. The update comes after FWPD received federal money in November aimed at helping the city and county reduce its backlog of untested kits. The Fort Worth Police Department’s share of that money is over $800,000, according to the news release. In addition to the clearing of rape kits, the department also announced that four of five forensic scientist positions with the city’s crime lab have been filled, according to the release. The remaining position has been posted online, the department said. Once trained, the employees will help eliminate the remaining backlog and ensure another one doesn’t happen in the future, officials said.
