Dear Friend,
As we near the end of Ramadan, I want to share an update on how Muslim Advocates has been using our policy, advocacy, and legal expertise to meet the emergency needs of our communities and to protect your civil rights. This work is possible because of the generous support of donors like you.
Since the onset of COVID-19 and the beginning of Ramadan, we are:
- Defending the rights of vulnerable Muslims in prison by holding state prison systems accountable for protecting their safety and religious freedom;
- Helping mosques and nonprofits keep their doors open through education about the federal loan programs under the CARES Act;
- Ensuring that your online events are not disrupted by anti-Muslim hate groups by offering educational resources and working with Zoom to tighten the security of their platform;
- Enabling charities to serve more people in need by facilitating the distribution of over $20,000 of free Uber and Lyft ride credits;
- Shifting public attitudes towards Muslims through our #MuslimsAct campaign to showcase stories of how American Muslims are serving their communities during this challenging time;
- Bringing the diverse American Muslim community together through a virtual Ramadan event, The National Iftar, co-hosted by Rep. André Carson, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ilhan Omar and MN State Attorney General Keith Ellison, attended by thousands of Muslims and allies across the country (view it here);
- Activating artists to inspire hope for a better tomorrow through our American Muslim Futures project, in collaboration with the Shangri-La Museum of Islamic Art & Culture and The Kennedy Center (view the launch event here).
We cannot do this work without you. Your financial support gives us the resources and encouragement to take on some of the most challenging issues of our time. And win. Will you make a zakat-eligible gift today?
Thank you and Ramadan Mubarak!
