Dear Friend,
What shapes a leader? Is it their ideas, principles, or the mentors who inspire them?
For Vice President-elect JD Vance, it’s the ideas that define America’s Founding and the clarity to defend them. The Claremont Institute has been instrumental in shaping the principles that guide his statesmanship.
“The [Claremont Institute’s] Center for the American Way of Life is doing incredible work to restore the American system. Their analysis and acumen have been invaluable for my work in the United States Senate.”
–Vice President-elect JD Vance

Vance being selected as President Trump’s running mate was a gratifying moment for The Claremont Institute. When he takes office in just 21 days, America will have a Vice President who is strongly joined with Claremont’s mission in protecting the vision cast by our Founders.
JD Vance has long-considered Claremont an indispensable voice for principled statesmanship and sound policy. Politico has the vices of many mainstream DC-media outlets, but it got this one right: The Claremont Institute is one of the seven thinkers or groups that have shaped the incoming Vice President’s worldview. We would challenge the notion that Vance’s success is dependent on these “seven thinkers and groups,” but we’re honored to be a valuable resource for him.

Vance has spoken at our events, often as the keynote speaker ([link removed] ) , he reads and writes for our publications such as The American Mind ([link removed] ) , and key members of his incredible team are alumni of Claremont’s Fellowship programs, such as his Chief of Staff Jacob Reses (Publius 2016), his Deputy Chief of Staff James Braid (Lincoln 2019), and his Press Secretary William Martin (Lincoln 2024). Braid was recently appointed by President-elect Trump to serve as director of the White House’s Office of Legislative Affairs, where he will lead the administration’s interactions with Congress.
