Hi Revealer,
My name is Kate Howard and I am an editorial director at the Center for Investigative Reporting, working on partnerships for Reveal and Mother Jones.
We’re proud this year to have been a part of nearly a dozen essential investigations in partnership with other newsrooms. We know that journalism is stronger when we work together, combining our staff and strengths to bring you the best possible stories. Among them:
- We worked with the Center for Public Integrity on a groundbreaking three-part audio series, 40 Acres and a Lie, that tells the history of an often-misunderstood government program that fueled a wealth gap that remains today.
- We partnered with the New York Times’ Local Investigations Fellowship to examine Florida maternity homes that require residents to agree to strict conditions that limit their communications, their financial decisions, and even their movements.
- We joined forces with the Marshall Project to expose sketchy hospital drug tests that are causing women to lose custody of their babies.
- We worked with KUOW and the Seattle Times to highlight their podcast Lost Patients, a deeply reported and compelling look at the broken system for treating psychosis in America.
This work is important to me because our partners were absolutely essential in making this work possible—both the newsrooms we collaborate with as well as the readers, listeners, and viewers like you who help to pay for it.
I know this work matters to you too, and we’d be so grateful to have your support today.
