NY Times: Homelessness hit record levels in 2024

We have our work cut out for us

Rising rent, stagnant wages, the end of COVID support, and many more factors have led to a staggering increase in the number of unhoused people across the country. HUD just released their annual report and we now know that at least 770,000 people are unhoused. That number was taken from PIT, or Point In Time, counts, which are drastically inaccurate, so the real number is probably much, much higher. Regardless, we know that homelessness has increased by 1/3 over the last TWO YEARS and, given the policies we are likely to see come to life next year, we can bet it is going to get much higher.

When we decided to significantly expand the number of organizations that are doing ID work in 2025 by building 50 state coalitions, HUBS in every major city, and launching an incubator, we knew that we would be working to address the needs of 26 million American adults without IDs. What we didn’t know was that almost one million of them would be unhoused.

2025 is going to require more work than ever before. Will you commit to supporting our work all year? Become a Hamer’s Hero and support us with a monthly donation. You have two more days to receive an extremely cute enamel pin as a thank you gift for becoming a new monthly donor or increasing your monthly donation.

Be a hero, become a monthly donor

Increase your monthly donation!

Can’t become a monthly donor or still need to give enough for a tax break?

Two days left!

We are as committed as we have always been to making sure that the must vulnerable Americans have the IDs they need to build new lives. Thank you for standing with us.
