Hello John, it's Elizabeth Warren.
In a few moments, I’m going to ask if you can make an end-of-year contribution to the Working Families Party before Tuesday night’s deadline — because we all need to prepare right now to fight back effectively against the attacks coming our way in 2025. But first, I wanted to take a minute or two to talk with you directly about our shared fight for working families, and why it is so important that every one of us pitch in however we can.
When I first ran for Senate, it was because I saw how the system was rigged for the wealthy and well-connected against everyone else.
We won because Massachusetts voters saw it too. And even though we’ve been up against powerful forces, it has always been true that when we organize, fight righteous fights, and hold those in power accountable, we can make positive change.
I need all of you to remember that. Because, given what just happened in November, what we do next is critically important.
First, and most importantly, we need to prove the far right wrong. They think we won’t have the stomach to keep fighting. It’s on all of us to show them otherwise. Don’t forget, the political position we’re in is not permanent, and we have the power to make change if we fight for it.
Second, we need to fight every fight in Congress — something that we know how to do. After Trump won eight years ago, we got to work immediately to contest special elections and build the coalition that laid the groundwork for Democrats to take back the House and dismantle the Republican trifecta in the 2018 midterms. We need to bring that same widespread energy again.
Third, we need our elected leaders to prove to everyone — voters, activists, and party leaders alike — that we will actually fight for working families. For my entire career, I’ve studied how the system is rigged against working-class families. On paper, the U.S. economy is the strongest in the world. And yet millions are struggling to get by.
Now, Trump’s billionaire hangers-on and corporate donors are already scheming to get his administration to make them even richer — to pick the pockets of working people. But it’s on us to prove that we’re different, and then put it into practice.
I won’t promise that every effort of ours to combat Trump will end in success.
But there WILL be opportunities to fight back. To check and curb his power. And to retake the House, Senate, and White House. But only if we put in the work, together.
The Working Families Party is at the forefront of so many of these battles, John. They organize in key working-class communities, month after month, even after the bright lights of the campaign have dimmed. They have had my back — and they’ll have ALL of our backs on the road ahead.
