As the year winds down, I'm reaching out with an urgent question: will you stand with us to defend press freedom in the new year? I wouldn't ask if I didn't believe this is something you care deeply about.
Journalists worldwide face unprecedented threats simply for doing their jobs -- keeping us informed. Just in the last few weeks:
- President-elect Donald Trump escalated his campaign against the press by filing a lawsuit against the Des Moines Register and Gannett.
- Less than a month after being moved to house arrest, a Guatemalan appeals court ordered journalist José Rubén Zamora back to jail.
- Israeli forces killed at least four journalists in Gaza in a single week.
- A Georgian news crew covering pro-EU protests was attacked by masked men.
-Environmental journalist Chhoeung Chheng was shot and killed in Cambodia.
These acts of violence, intimidation, and censorship are not isolated incidents -- they're part of a growing global crisis that threatens the free flow of information and the safety of those who bring it to light.
At CPJ, we won't stop fighting to protect journalists, defend their rights, and provide the critical support they need in the face of these dangers. But we can't do it alone.
Will you join us in this urgent fight? Your contribution today will help us stand with reporters on the frontlines and push back against these escalating threats.
Make your gift today.
With gratitude,
Jodie Ginsberg
