I'm not just a small business owner; I'm the only member of Congress who's never taken a penny from special interests, PACs, lobbyists, or fellow members of Congress. That means I'm going to be relentless in my pursuit of transparency and accountability as Congress distributes taxpayer dollars to address this crisis. So many people are struggling to make ends meet right now, and my House colleagues and I are working hard to bring Americans the relief they need. The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) has helped millions of small businesses keep their lights on -- but it's also been exploited by more than 400 large, publicly-held companies who have other means of avoiding financial ruin. I refuse to accept this. It won't matter how much money Congress makes available if it doesn't flow to the people who need it most. That's why I've introduced the Small Business Transparency and Reporting for the Underbanked and Taxpayers at Home (TRUTH) Act in Congress. If signed into law, it will enable anyone with an internet connection to look up what businesses have received PPP loans, why they got the loan, how many employees they have, and other information to make it clear where these funds are going -- and ensure that no large corporations are able to exploit this program for their own gain. I'm working hard to restore accountability in America, and I hope to do it for another term.
