progress advancing bipartisan U.S. leadership on nuclear nonproliferation and
disarmament.

But nuclear dangers are growing once again, the regime designed to prevent the
buildup, testing and proliferation of nuclear weapons is weakening, and global peace and security are at risk.

The coming year is critical.

Your gift will especially support our efforts to:

• Prevent an unconstrained, three-way arms race. Growing tensions with an aggressive Russia combined with a buildup of Chinese nuclear forces have many in Congress and the new administration looking to expand the budget for and the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. But no one wins an arms race and more nuclear weapons don't make anyone safer.

You can count on ACA to be at the forefront of a growing campaign to halt and reverse a new nuclear buildup and press nuclear-armed states to meet their disarmament obligations. We will start by pressing Trump and Putin to agree not to increase the size of their respective nuclear arsenals even after the New START agreement expires in 2026.

• Block the resumption of nuclear explosive testing. Some former Trump advisors suggest the United States should resume nuclear testing for the first time since 1992. This would set of set off a worldwide chain reaction of nuclear testing and blow apart the global nonproliferation regime.

We have turned back proposals to resume nuclear testing before and stand ready to so again.

• Head-off a nuclear-armed Iran. After Trump pulled the United States out of the successful 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Iran revived its nuclear program and is now just weeks away from producing enough material for one bomb. Iran's new reformist president says he is open to dialogue on mutual de-escalatory steps, but other Iranian leaders suggest Iran should withdraw from the NPT if tougher international sanctions are re-imposed as most Trump advisors want.
  
  ACA will continue to press leaders in Washington and in Europe to pursue more effective diplomatic solutions to keep Iran’s nuclear program in check.

These are big challenges. Yet, during the difficult days of the Cold War and since, we persisted and eventually succeeded in helping to advance effective arms control solutions that made the world safer.
