SACRAMENTO—“Today, legislative leaders, led by Senator Scott Wiener, announced amendments to SB 939, which would prohibit commercial landlords from terminating a tenancy during the COVID-19 state of emergency. While CBRT is working hard to help all business sectors recover during this economic crisis, we are opposed to legislation like SB 939 that conveniently shifts the burden from one business sector to another, creating equally devastating consequences without solving the core problem. SB 939 will harm the very businesses this bill seeks to protect. The legislature’s focus should be on helping small businesses open as soon as possible by reducing the costs they now face from a bewildering range of state mandates, which will return workers to their jobs as quickly as possible, not exacerbate an already challenging environment."
