John,
Care workers -- some of the most vulnerable low wage workers in the country -- are in crisis. At least 30 MILLION people are unemployed. Over 90,000 people have now died.
But with lives and livelihoods URGENTLY hanging in the balance, the Senate is focused on confirming judges and protecting corporations, while REFUSING to debate the critical next steps to helping working families get through this crisis.
Because of emails from supporters like you, the HEROES Act passed the House last week. This bill would provide desperately needed support to low-wage workers and it is outrageous that it is not even being discussed.
With Senators quarantined like the rest of us, tweeting our demand that the Senate step up is one way we're guaranteed to get their attention.
What does this look like for working families? Meet Erika -- one of our members in California. Erika's daughter struggles with asthma. Recently, she got a serious bronchitis infection.
But as a caregiver and cleaner, Erika has been out of work for weeks. With zero income, no paid leave, and no health insurance, she's got no way of paying for her daughter's medicine. Her friends and family can only loan so much.
The HEROES Act would provide domestic workers like Erika with significant relief: providing premium pay for a broad group of essential workers, expanding access to coronavirus testing, and extending financial support to millions of undocumented workers and their families who were cruelly excluded from previous relief legislation.
These are important and necessary steps toward supporting all working people, especially Black, Latinx, Native American and Asian communities, in this time of crisis -- and it is imperative and urgent that the Senate step up and start helping.
Tweet at your Senators and demand they provide #CareForAll and tell them to support this lifesaving bill without delay!
Domestic workers are essential to our daily lives. They are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis AND they are paying a huge price. The cost of inaction is great -- families and communities will be devastated.
America's long road to recovery ultimately begins with people, and the Senate must act now to ensure that all of the essential workers who will move our country forward have the support they need during this crisis.
Thanks for all you do,
