Hi John,
The DSA-LA nominations committee has extended the deadline to self-nominate for subgroup leadership to 11:59 pm on Thursday, January 2.
As a truly democratic organization, when it's time to elect leaders to DSA-LA, we call on all members to consider stepping up to run and to fully engage in the process of determining the direction of the chapter for the next year — including leadership of our committees and campaign working groups. It's these leaders who are responsible for engaging our growing membership in some of the most visible work we do as an organization, such as our priority campaigns, and the org needs you to step up!

Subgroup Position Details
- Subgroup Co-Chairs: Responsible for formulating agendas and facilitating regular meetings. They help maintain focus and move forward on the program and priorities that were established by the committee.
- Subgroup Coordinators: Responsible for staying updated on ongoing work and opportunities to collaborate and share resources across DSA-LA branches, subgroups and campaigns.
- Administrative Committee: The Administrative Committee is a standing committee of DSA-LA that exists to fulfill core administrative work and assist elected leaders in making the chapter run smoothly by adding capacity to Steering Committee & building institutional functions. Members are appointed by Steering Committee, with a chair elected annually by the chapter from among Administrative Committee membership.
- Electoral Committee: The Electoral Committee is a five member, elected Standing Committee, whose responsibilities include advancing the Local’s electoral strategy, maintaining relationships with members in elected office, facilitating local endorsements; and coordinating any additional subcommittees needed to advance electoral work. Electoral Committee members may not be employed by campaigns seeking Local Endorsement.
- Campaign Working Groups: The chapter is currently engaged in three priority campaigns which are organized as time-bound working groups – Power to the Tenants, Mass Transit for All, and Palestine Solidarity. Per our bylaws, “the leadership, structure, and election timeframe of time-bound working groups must ordinarily match that [of other local Subgroups], but may differ if such is specified in their founding.” Of the three campaign proposals, only Power to the Tenants does not specify how leaders are to be selected in their founding document. As such, members will vote to elect Chairs and Coordinators for this working group only.

We also encourage all candidates and voters, especially those who are involved in any of the subgroups, to attend our candidate forum on Zoom on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Register for that here.
Solidarity,
