As Democrats and progressives across the nation reflect on an election year that didn’t go the way we wanted it to, it’s important to take stock of what went well. Here in New Mexico, Democrats maintained strong majorities in the State House and Senate, re-elected our entirely blue congressional delegation, and scored important victories up and down the ballot.
At Emerge New Mexico, we were proud to be part of this effort: over forty of our alums won their races — helping to secure the largest female legislative majority in the entire country, at 60/112 total seats!
Our winning strategy is contingent on sustained political engagement across New Mexico that goes beyond any one election cycle. By listening and engaging with folks year-round, we can build long-term political power, and that’s central to our plans next year.
