Dear John,
Through the year-end giving season, we have shared the story of Raha, a girl who exemplifies the life-long consequences of child marriage. In this chapter, Raha is now a young mother. As such, she’s expected to stay home with her child and maintain the house instead of pursuing opportunities in the formal job market. She’s not alone.
Globally, women perform the vast majority of (2.8x more) unpaid care and domestic work driven by traditional gender norms and stereotypes about women’s role in the family, and may even be subject to laws that prevent them from working outside of the home.
We know that economic rights are human rights and that legal equality is critical in ensuring that women can occupy their desired roles and be fairly compensated for their work, in and out of the home. Equality Now helps bring us all closer to a reality in which all women and men have equal rights under the law and full enjoyment of their human rights. ([link removed])
