The Trump administration is using the current crisis as an excuse to deny the release of detained migrant children -- even to sponsor families who are ready and willing to take them in. Instead, the Department of Health and Human Services is keeping migrant children in crowded, unsanitary conditions -- and then deporting them back to their home countries in the middle of a pandemic.

Migrant families are now suing the Trump administration over their childrens’ constitutional rights -- but as the LA Times reports, “In recent weeks, ICE has moved to deport dozens of these kids and parents, despite many being plaintiffs in existing lawsuits.”

So Kamala Harris has stepped in -- with the California Senator writing, “This is why I’ve been calling for the safe release of immigrant children in U.S. custody. You cannot practice physical distancing in a shelter with dozens of children and staff. HHS must do more to protect the health and safety of these children -- now.”

Under Trump appointee Alex Azar, the Department of Health and Human Services has rebranded itself as the “Department of Life” -- but they’re not living up to that name now. Please, help us hold them accountable. Tell us now:
