Hi gang –
It’s me, Robbie. I’m the Chief of Staff here at Accountable Tech, and I’m dropping in to share some end-of-year gratitude with this community. We’ve made serious progress holding Big Tech companies accountable. And that wouldn’t have been possible without your support.
Will you pitch in before our end-of-year deadline and help us hit our goal of raising $3,000 so we can continue to keep up the pressure on Big Tech companies?

Your contributions will help us to go even further in the fight to hold Big Tech accountable. This year together, we:
-
Exposed Big Tech’s impact on our democracy: We published research showing how Meta was deprioritizing content they deemed “political” ahead of elections, preventing voters from accessing critical information like voting resources and issue education. [1] Alongside hundreds of creators, including activists, journalists, and meme accounts, we sent a letter to Meta demanding that they end their default restrictions on “political content.” [2]
-
Called out the dangers of AI (artificial intelligence): After the Senate held AI Insight forums with Big Tech CEOs, we brought together a coalition of civil rights organizations and academics to uplift what a people-centered AI policy would look like, using advocacy to garner attention around our demands. Through our work, we raised awareness about AI’s real world harms to workers, the climate, and creative communities.
-
Won greater privacy protections for users from Google and Meta: After our research uncovered that Google was still collecting and retaining sensitive location data for trips to abortion clinics, Google announced they would store Location History data only locally on devices. [3] We also pressured Meta to fulfill their promise of encrypted messaging on Facebook Messenger, and the company has since made significant progress toward enabling default encryption. [4]
-
Won protections for kids online: By working with partners, we successfully helped pass the Kids Code in Maryland, which requires Big Tech companies to include safety features in their design and make young people’s profiles private by default. [5]
This is just a glimpse of what we accomplished together this year. Our research and advocacy would not have been possible without your support. With your help, we can keep holding Big Tech accountable and blaze a trail to the digital future we all deserve.
Friend – we’re more than halfway to our goal of raising $3,000. Please give now to continue this fight to keep companies like Google and Meta accountable →
