"Doctor, help us!"
An IRC/MAP emergency medical team operates in Gaza.
John, these heartbreaking words echo in my head as I write this update.
"Doctor, help us!"
We first heard these words relayed from Dr. Hakim, an emergency medic at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, who has worked closely with the IRC's Emergency Medical Team (EMT) and our partner, Medical Aid for Palestinians.
"Doctor, help us!"
Since the latest escalation of conflict in Gaza, the IRC has sent 12 emergency medical teams to Gaza to support health workers like Dr. Hakim and his colleagues. These teams (composed of trauma doctors, surgeons and pediatricians) have carried out more than 600 surgeries and 2,800 consultations. And we've delivered 45 metric tons of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
But with each day, the situation is worsening—and with each hour, more children, women and men are suffering life-threatening injuries that need urgent care.
Please make your year-end gift today while it will have three times the impact for people in Gaza and other conflict zones around the world.
Your generosity brings hope in a time of incredible hardship for families affected by crises, providing them with the emergency assistance they need to survive. Make 3X the impact today >>
—Andrea
The IRC continues to call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire as the only way to protect Palestinian lives, secure the release of the remaining hostages, and safely scale up humanitarian assistance and service delivery. |
