Friend, meet Abdullah.

Twelve months after his birth, Abdullah weighed less than 9 pounds. Like millions of other children in conflict-affected Yemen, Abdullah was suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

At a hospital supported by UNICEF, doctors provided an intensive treatment to address his malnutrition and thankfully, after five days, Abdullah started to gain weight.
 

Abdullah’s story is one that’s familiar to millions of children and their families as the world confronts an unprecedented food and nutrition crisis.

An estimated 45 million children are affected by wasting — the most immediate, visible and life-threatening form of malnutrition. Children like Abdullah are too thin for their height and their immune systems are weak, leaving them vulnerable to developmental delays, disease and death.
