We know that many LGBTQ+ young people are facing many challenges this year. We learned that 90% of LGBTQ+ youth shared that their well-being was negatively impacted by recent politics. After analyzing the full day of post-election conversations across our Crisis Services team, we saw an overall volume increase of over 700% on November 6, compared to weeks prior.
We also know that when LGBTQ+ young people feel accepted by just one adult, their odds of attempting suicide are significantly lower. In many instances, by more than 40%, according to Trevor's research.
Here’s just one story behind those facts and figures — which illustrates the importance of our work and your support.
Skylar, an ally for LGBTQ+ young people and a Trevor donor, shared with us her experience with The Trevor Project when she first came out — and the reason behind why she supports Trevor now as an adult:
“My family disowned me after I came out as transgender. I was at rock bottom. But The Trevor Project’s crisis counselors talked me down from suicide — and I’m here and proud and doing much better today.”
