Wildlife populations worldwide are crashing at alarming rates, largely due to habitat destruction, climate change, and overexploitation. 3 billion birds have vanished in North America since 1970, animal populations have dropped 60% globally since 1970, and 1 million species could face extinction by 2050. The numbers are staggering.
The Endangered Species Act proves that when we commit to conservation — when we invest in protecting the animals we care about — we can do so much good. In the half-century since it was passed, 99% of species listed under the Act have been saved from extinction.
We need bold, decisive action now to defend the Endangered Species Act and protect the ecosystems vulnerable species depend on. Attacks on the ESA threaten the very protections that have helped save countless species from extinction. We must fight back against these efforts, ensure the Act remains strong, and hold lawmakers accountable. Protecting the ESA is critical, as it is our best tool for safeguarding endangered species and their habitats from the growing threats they face, including habitat destruction and climate change. The time to act is now.
