Friend, Elon Musk poured hundreds of millions of dollars into electing Donald Trump.(1) Now, he’s a top advisor in Trump 2.0’s orbit – with plenty at stake for his bottom line. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos made the paper he owns, The Washington Post, pull its endorsement of Kamala Harris. Now, he says he’s excited to work with Trump to reduce regulation.(2) Both of these men grew their wealth instantly just by helping Trump win.(3) And with Trump’s assembled cabinet the richest in history – nearly 2,900 times richer than Joe Biden’s(4) -- we’re about to see corporate giveaways and lawlessness like never before.
Our work to hold corporations accountable has to proceed on two tracks next year. First, we must fight a Trump agenda that is designed to enrich billionaires and devastate the middle class and the poor. For instance, Republicans are preparing a giant tax cut for corporations and the wealthy, akin to what they passed under Trump 1.0. Those 2017 “reforms” gave the top 0.1 percent 277 times more in cuts than to the middle class.(5) Second, we have to stand up for strong unions, fair working conditions, and living wages -- and against corporate price gouging and monopolies -- when we know the Trump White House will do the opposite. Courage California has a long history of partnering with workers at Amazon and elsewhere trying to form unions and fight for dignity in the workplace. And we’ve worked tirelessly to call out the company’s anti-competitive practices, and demand the U.S. Justice Department do the same.
