On the campaign trail, I’ve been asked whether I’d want to be called the First Gentleman or the First Partner of California. I’ll say to you what I’ve said to each of them: the only title I need is as Betty’s husband.

Because here’s the truth, John – I am married to a remarkable woman.

Betty is kind, driven, selfless, and one of the smartest people around. Before I met her, and since, she’s always been a thoughtful problem solver committed to the unheard people of California, a voice for the voiceless in our communities who wants everyone to get ahead.

Every night, when I look into Betty's eyes, they are ones of steely resolve to continue the work of making things add up for each of us. I see the determination she has demonstrated to prioritize being a part-time caregiver to her 101-year old mother AND running a solid campaign for Governor.
