This is the most urgent appeal we’ve ever written. As we look ahead to 2025, trouble awaits.

Authoritarians and billionaires are creating alliances and spreading disinformation that threatens democracy worldwide. To protect our collective future, we need a free, independent press now more than ever.

Since 2006, DeSmog has been exposing billionaire funders like the Kochs and Mercers, the networks of think tanks like the Heritage Foundation and Heartland Institute, and the fossil fuel-funded front groups spreading “free market” mythology and propaganda to block climate action.

We’ve spent 18 years mapping, profiling and investigating what we call the Architecture of Denial — the networks from the Mont Pelerin Society (founded in 1947) to the constellation of groups and billionaires that just propelled Donald Trump to victory. These forces have expanded globally to infect democracies, and they will not stop their quest to erode trust in science and the public interest. Nor will we stop fighting them.
