I know that this can be a very busy time of year but now that the main festivities of Christmas are over, I hope you had a chance to read my previous email about our work with survivors of domestic violence in Ethiopia.

If you haven’t had time, we’re still seeking support for Womankind’s work with the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA), helping survivors of domestic abuse to find a safe place to stay and take their legal case to court.

The reality for women and girls in Ethiopia:
* 72% of women have experienced domestic violence in the past 12 months. (World Health Organization)
* 74% of women aged 15-49 have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM), despite it being outlawed. (UNFPA)
* Many women and girls face harassment and abuse at every stage of life—from school to marriage and beyond.
These harmful practices persist because of deeply rooted beliefs, but change is happening.
With help from our supporters, volunteers at our partner organisation, the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA), are helping women reclaim their rights and access justice.
Every day, women queue outside EWLA's offices.
EWLA has already supported over 3,000 women with free legal advice, access to safe shelter, and guidance to take their cases to court. But there is a growing demand for help — 40 new women seek their services every day.
Without your support, many of the women queuing would have no choice but to remain in abusive relationships as they can’t pay for legal services elsewhere.
