Another harsh winter has arrived in Ukraine, and with an energy crisis looming and no end to warfare in sight, women and girls urgently need your support.
Even in the most severe weather conditions and remote areas, UNFPA’s mobile gynecological teams continue their extremely important work in 23 regions throughout the country.
But services like this could soon be in jeopardy. The U.S. government defunded UNFPA during Trump’s previous administration, and our funding is at risk once again.
If we are defunded, we might have to close 20 safe spaces that provide psychological and mental health support to women and girls traumatized by the war in Ukraine and at increased risk of violence.
You can make a difference today. Will you rush a 2X-matched tax-deductible gift before the end of the year to ensure women and girls in Ukraine and beyond receive uninterrupted care?
“It’s frightening that there are strikes in Odesa, but we saw that other women were giving birth here, so we decided to go ahead,” shares Iryna, mother of triplets.
Katernya, a new mother in Ukraine, grappled with the decision to have children. But, because she knew she could rely on UNFPA for care, she made the decision to grow her family.
"I have friends who tried to convince me not to have children. Because there’s a war, because it’s frightening, but children are happiness. How could it be otherwise? Parents must give their children confidence in tomorrow, and everything will be fine. I want to believe in it — I won’t even entertain the thought that anything could go wrong," she told us.
In times of uncertainty and constant threat, women giving birth, like Iryna and Kateryna, find the support and care they need for a fresh start, thanks to your generous gifts. So this holiday season, as Ukraine prepares for another long, harsh winter, we cannot look away from the women and girls whose needs are mounting.
Generous donors are matching up to $200,000 in gifts before the end of the year. Will you make a 2X-matched gift to keep delivering maternal health care to women living through war in Ukraine and wherever your help is needed?
Thank you for not looking away from the crisis in Ukraine.
