Towana wears many titles: mom, wife, grandma—and now, Administrative Assistant thanks to NCOA and our job training program. At 58, Towana’s journey to gainful employment was anything but easy. But with determination and support, she proved that perseverance is a superpower.
After a series of knee surgeries, Towana faced a life-altering challenge—the loss of her leg due to a serious infection. She navigated housing issues, prosthetic repairs, and car troubles— all while continuing her on-the-job training.
Her perseverance paid off. Her dedication and skills impressed temporary employer so much, they invited her to officially join their team. Now, she manages special projects, record-keeping, and clerical tasks as a full-time employee.
Towana’s story is one of strength and hope. It’s also a reminder that many older adults face barriers they can’t overcome alone.
