On Monday, we celebrated Festivus – and engaged in the customary airing of our grievances. It’s always fun to get those off your chest. But it’s never good to end on a sour note!
That’s why today, we’re celebrating our feats of strength in 2024. That covers everything from my Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act – which was signed into law this week! – that makes our city a safer place to work, to Juan Soto joining the Mets.
If you support this work, and you want it to continue, please consider chipping in $10 or even $25 to my campaign for Mayor. We’re facing a big deadline on Dec. 31, and every dollar counts.
And read on below for our feats of strength! We’ve done a lot of good work this year, and with supporters like you behind me, I know we’re just getting started!
- Juan Soto joined the Mets! That’s a great way for Uncle Steve to spend his billions.
- The minimum wage is increasing for the second January in a row. Thanks to my Raise the Wage Act, New Yorkers will see a raise every January 1st. We lift from the bottom.
- I secured $7 million for apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs, building a pipeline of skilled workers for family-sustaining careers in building the housing and infrastructure New York needs.
- The Retail Worker Safety Act, the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act, and Workers Compensation Coverage for PTSD were all signed into law. We are working hard in Albany to take care of the worker as a whole person - body and mind.
- The Senate Labor Committee held the first-ever Workers Compensation Oversight Hearing, bringing together injured workers, medical practitioners, and representatives of the Board together so we can work together to improve this vital safety net.
- Queens get the money! I celebrated $500,000 for a new pool for Lexington School for the Deaf, $125,000 for a new playground for the Jerome Hardeman Early Childhood Center, and $227,000 for new baby scales and ultrasound machines for Elmhurst Hospital. Putting our taxpayer dollars to good use enriching vital community spaces #SeenIn13.
- Workers at Amazon, Starbucks, REI, the New York Times, Mercedes-Benz, NYU, Mobilization for Justice, and our ports all organized to defend each other and their coworkers. Hot Labor Summer is going straight into Bold Labor Winter.
- I secured $7 million for apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs, building a pipeline of skilled workers for family-sustaining careers in building the housing and infrastructure New York needs.
- Our annual Festival Colombiano moved to Calle Colombia and brought together renowned local bands and talented artists for a free community celebration that had my neighbors dancing in the street.
- I shared a comprehensive plan to deliver free, high-quality universal child care for New Yorkers aged 6 weeks to 5 years. You can read it here.
- Team Ramos handled 953 appointments and 1616 phone calls this year, helping our neighbors with housing, SNAP, and labor issues.
- We organized 22 resource fairs and 2 town halls. We provided 1000 turkeys, 1500 backpacks, and 1355 toys to usher in a happy holiday season.
- I announced a run for Mayor of the city where I was born, raised, and raising my two sons. We welcomed volunteers and donors from all five boroughs and the first labor endorsements of the 2025 cycle. I’m excited for what 2025 holds. Let’s get it.
Phew! What a year. It’s been a whirlwind, and 2025 will be even more intense (and exciting).
So please – chip in to my campaign for Mayor today, and together we’ll fight for a city that takes care of its working people. Chip in today >>
Thank you,
Jessica Ramos
