In November, I had the privilege of joining Save the Boundary Waters’ Kids for the Boundary Waters on their powerful trip to Washington, D.C. It was a profoundly inspiring experience to watch 42 passionate young advocates take on the monumental task of advocating for this invaluable Wilderness and its protection for future generations.

During our week in our nation's capital, our high school and college-aged Kids for the Boundary Waters:  

• Met with 28 U.S. House of Representatives offices
• Had meetings with 12 U.S. Senate offices
• Connected with officials at the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service. 

During these meetings, youth participants told their personal stories of why the Boundary Waters is meaningful to them. I was pulled aside more than once by D.C. officials who told me that the kids left powerful impressions on them emphasizing the importance of preserving the Wilderness.

During this trip, I documented the experiences of these young advocates through photos and videos. Watch the recap video to see a glimpse into our week on Capitol Hill and hear the incredible stories of our youngest Boundary Waters defenders.

This journey to Washington, D.C., is part of Save the Boundary Waters’ continuing mission to protect the Boundary Waters permanently. Our established connections with essential legislators and agencies have been vital in obtaining protections before, and they continue to be central to our efforts going forward.
