Truth Amid the Chaos

Dear FAIR Friend, 

You’ve been hearing from me a lot lately, but to formally introduce myself, my name is Olivia Riggio, and I’m FAIR’s administrative & fundraising director. I wanted to reach out to you personally because we have today and tomorrow left to reach our $150,000 fundraising goal.

It’s crunch time!

As I’ve informed our audience before, FAIR has sustained a dip in giving over the past few years that has led to significant financial challenges—a $200,000 gap our budget. We have a small cushion to support us for a little while longer, but we need to get FAIR on a sustainable trajectory.

You can play a role in helping turn this around, in supporting FAIR now and into the future!

I love my job at FAIR because I believe a just and democratic society begins with a well-informed public. There’s undoubtedly a crisis of journalism, as it’s become more of a corporate moneymaker and political mouthpiece than the public service it should be. But more and more people who may not have previously been media nerds are waking up to this reality. Whether it’s friends confused as to why the “Paper of Record” seems to be making glaring omissions, or family disappointed that cable news doesn’t seem to be giving them the full picture, it feels powerful to say, “No, you’re not imagining this, and I work somewhere that’s working to change it!” 

It’s easy to feel scared about the future. This country just elected a president whose contempt for journalism, nonprofits, public health, civil rights, climate, immigration and democracy are abundantly clear. 

We’re going to need your support to keep speaking truth amid this chaos. Attempts to silence our voices will be weaker the more we can strengthen this movement.
