The latest EPA proposal doesn’t just ignore science – it actively works to undermine science by requiring EPA to cast aside key scientific studies when making decisions that will affect our health.

This is a big deal. So big, that for the first time ever, a $1-for-$1 match offer will DOUBLE the impact of your gift to EDF Action, the advocacy and lobbying partner of EDF. Will you claim your share of the matching dollars with a gift of $25.00 today?

We’ve been fighting this “censored science” rule since the proposal was first published. In March, EPA gave public health experts (and activists like you) just 30 days to formally enter their comments on a supplemental to the proposed rule – despite the ongoing public health crisis that deserves our top experts’ full attention.

EDF members sent nearly 15,000 emails and more than 600 tweets to EPA Administrator and former coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler demanding more time for the public to comment on the proposed rule. And you got results: the comment deadline was extended another 30 days.

And we used that time to keep up the pressure – in the end, more than 79,000 EDF members submitted comments to EPA opposing the rule.

The rule’s language is very similar to a bill, introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) in 2017, that failed to pass in Congress.

Last year, EDF’s attorneys uncovered evidence via a Freedom of Information Act request that Rep. Smith met with then-EPA Chief Scott Pruitt to convert his stalled legislation into a regulatory rule, so that it wouldn’t have to be put to a democratic vote.

We cannot allow those who govern to willfully ignore independent public health science, and replace it with industry-funded studies designed to marshal support for their proposals.

Your donation to EDF Action will be doubled in value by a foundation donor, which means your gift today will make TWICE the impact:

P.S. Because EDF Action is permitted to lobby Congress and advise supporters like you on legislation and how you can make a difference, donations are not tax-deductible. For that reason, matching gifts are rarely available for donations to lobbying organizations – and this is the first time EDF Action has ever been selected by a match sponsor. Matching funds are limited, and we don’t want to leave a single dollar on the table. Every $1 you give today will unlock $1 more to defend science and protest all attempts to undermine and weaken the health standards that protect us:
