We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.
Last week’s House vote to advance the HEROES Act was a huge step forward for working and immigrant families. The $3 trillion relief package will allocate more than $6 billion to working people, immigrants, and small businesses, and provide vital resources and protections to frontline workers and families in our district who are struggling to stay afloat. But we can’t get this money into your hands until Senate Republicans get on board and pass this bill. Add your name to DEMAND Senate Republicans pass the HEROES Act, immediately >>> Black, Latino, immigrant, and working-class communities across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are suffering from some of the highest rates of COVID-19 infection, mortality, homelessness, and unemployment across the country. Children are falling behind in school without access to the internet or connected devices. Parents are forced to choose whether to pay their rent or buy food. Working people are left with no choice but to work, even without protective equipment or paid sick leave. But Republicans would rather prioritize corporations and profit over the very lives of the people they represent. We must call on Mitch McConnell to pass the HEROES Act to provide working people the help they need. This bill may not have filled in all of the missing pieces -- such as detainee protections, workers’ salaries, and benefits security. But it will put millions of people back on their feet during this deadly pandemic. I am counting on you, John. United, our voices are stronger. ¡Sí Se Puede!
