Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Emily’s Notes — updates directly from your friendly neighborhood Congresswoman-elect!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks:

• We made two significant hires: Zahraa Saheb will be our Chief of Staff in D.C., and Katy Crabtree will serve as District Director at home. I look forward to working with them and continuing to build a powerhouse team to serve the 6th District.

• I attended the ribbon-cutting of the Pacific Building in Port Orchard, a 75–bed facility for unhoused Washingtonians with access to services including mental health and substance abuse treatment. As I told the Kitsap Daily News [[link removed]] : This place is a special opportunity for us to ensure folks don’t have to live in the woods, students don’t have to sleep unsheltered and then pack themselves up to get to school down the road, and folks have a warm place to sleep as they think about how to rebuild a life for themselves.

• I spoke extensively to the Seattle Times , along with Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Adam Smith, about our strategies for working with the incoming Trump administration. [[link removed]] I’m optimistic we can work across the aisle on issues like STEM education, but I’ll do everything in my power to protect my constituents’ fundamental freedoms, including reproductive freedom.

• In case you missed it, Zahraa and I took a road trip around Washington’s 6th District [[link removed]] . We drove through five counties, visited the Makah Tribal Council, met with eleven Neah Bay community leaders, shopped at four small businesses, and made it home 14 hours after we left.

The 6th Congressional District is vast and beautiful. The drives are long, the people are hardworking, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather live and represent.

Now, this is the part where I ask for your help.

I see it as my job to work with anyone in Congress if it will deliver results for my constituents in the 6th District, communities across Washington State, and our country. But as long as Republicans have a majority – our healthcare, our safety net, and our fundamental freedoms will be under threat.

Speaker Mike Johnson has spoken about “massive” changes to the Affordable Care Act and cuts to Social Security and Medicaid. Along with Nancy Mace, he’s added new rules to make life harder for LGBTQ+ members and staff on Capitol Hill. And that’s the tip of the iceberg.

That’s why we’re laying the groundwork NOW to take back the House in 2026. The earlier we start, the better chance we’ll have to help great Democrats flip seats.
