John,
After withholding $10 billion in emergency loans from the U.S. Postal Service and installing his crony as Postmaster General, President Donald Trump is expanding his war on Americans’ ability to cast their ballots by mail in this election.
In a series of deranged tweets yesterday, Trump attacked Michigan’s and Nevada’s plans to send applications for mail-in ballots to all the voters in their states.
Trump falsely claimed that their plans are “illegal,” accused them of voter fraud, and said as a result he would “hold up” federal funding to those states. That’s not just unethical; it’s criminal.
Trump has already said he’s opposed to vote-by-mail because it “doesn’t work out well for Republicans.” Now, even though Trump himself votes by mail, he’s working to dismantle the USPS and threatening to hold up federal funding in two key battleground states to stop vote-by-mail.
We can’t take any chances with this election, John. We need Congress to act swiftly and pass universal vote-by-mail reforms to ensure every single voter can safely cast their ballot in this election -- no matter what Donald Trump says.
If you agree, add your name to our petition today calling on Congress to retain and pass the universal vote-by-mail standards and funding House Democrats included in the HEROES Act.
Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump will do whatever they can to stop this reform from being passed. They know they stand to lose big in a free and fair election this fall.
That’s why Congress must be willing to fight with everything they’ve got. Trump’s attempt to use fear and intimidation to interfere with and invalidate this election cannot go unchecked. This is the most important election of our lifetimes. We need to send a clear message to Trump and Senate Republicans: Our democracy is not up for negotiation.
Democrats need a strong showing of grassroots support for vote-by-mail behind them to get this done. Will you add your name to demand that Congress retain and pass the universal vote-by-mail standards and funding included in the HEROES Act?
Thanks for raising your voice to protect our democracy.
