It has been just over a year since the passing of our founder, friend, and colleague Norman Lear. Somehow it feels like it was just yesterday, and at the same time it feels as if it’s been ages. Norman left us a great and inspiring legacy. He founded People For and spent the last four decades of his life supporting our mission to defend freedom, justice, and democracy, and build an America where basic rights and freedoms are upheld for all, not just the wealthy and the powerful.

Recently People For delivered sleeping bags to Democratic Senators with an urgent message: Work late. Work weekends. Confirm every judge.
It was a creative display of advocacy that demanded attention from senators. This coalition effort led by People For included our partners from Progressive Change Institute, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, National Women’s Law Center, Alliance For Justice, Indivisible, and Stand Up America. Together we will continue fighting for a judiciary that’s fair-minded and works in the best interest of all of us.

Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon spoke to a coalition of Christian nationalists and right-wing activists about their movement’s goals to deliver a “9-0 Court of Conservatives.” Bannon, who is fresh out of prison because of his refusal to comply with a subpoena from the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, celebrated what he sees as conservatives on the verge of having a complete monopoly on the Supreme Court. He also told the audience that the Senate’s role is simply to confirm whoever Trump nominates.

As we face a growing wave of authoritarianism and anti-democratic forces, it has never been more critical to secure the future of our democracy and the progressive values that are under attack by right-wing extremists. One way to join this cause is through estate planning to protect the people and things you love, safeguard your assets, and secure a brighter future for our country.
Despite the value of planning, the process is often inaccessible, overwhelming, and expensive — especially to historically disenfranchised communities. That's why we are excited to announce our new partnership with FreeWill so that our supporters can create their wills, and plan their estates at NO cost to you.
