Nicole needed her request notarized to get a replacement birth certificate from Los Angeles County. But, because she has epilepsy, she doesn’t drive. So Valerie arranged for Nicole’s transportation to and from the notary — and to cover the notary’s fee. With time running out to register to vote in Arizona, Nicole was worried that the birth certificate wouldn’t arrive in time, but Valerie also arranged for overnight delivery to be sure Nicole met the registration deadline.
When her birth certificate arrived, she was ready to get her ID. Valerie, again, arranged for transportation and paid for all associated fees. Nicole was able to secure her Arizona ID and register to vote ahead of the deadline.
Not only was Nicole able to register to vote, but her Arizona state ID allowed her to apply for essential state benefits, like health care and nutrition assistance.
“I didn’t pay a single fee in the end,” Nicole emphasized. “And that was all because of VoteRiders. I really don’t know if I would have been able to get an ID without that help.”
At VoteRiders, we believe cost should never be a barrier to voting. But so often, the fees to obtain an ID can put voting out of reach. VoteRiders depends on our donors to ensure that we have the resources we need to always cover the fees and transportation costs for the voters we help.
We set a goal to raise $50,000 by December 31, which we’ll use for ID information and free help for voters in states with strict voter ID laws all year long. You can help! Make a tax-deductible donation today and we’ll use it to help voters like Nicole get the ID help they need.
