Hi John,
I co-founded WE ACT for Environmental Justice in 1988 with Vernice Miller-Travis and Chuck Sutton to fight the environmental racism that was rampant in our West Harlem neighborhood, and demand community-driven, political change. As part of “The Sewage Seven” we were arrested for holding up traffic on the West Side Highway in January of 1988 to call attention to the North River Sewage Treatment Plant’s pollution. Since then, WE ACT has grown to a nationally-recognized leader in environmental justice.
We’ve had some big wins, but our opponents are more emboldened than ever to undo our progress. Our movement urgently needs a place to call home. WE ACT is building an Environmental Justice Center in Historic Hamilton Heights to strengthen our ability to serve as a movement-builder, sharing our knowledge, experience, and best practices, along with capacity-building resources with allies across the country. John, will you donate today to support the Environmental Justice Center? ([link removed])

* The WE ACT Green Institute - Our workforce development program in which we prepare community jobseekers for energy efficiency and clean energy jobs.
* Youth Education - Our award-winning educational programming is building the next generation of climate justice champions.
* Leadership Development - Through working groups, citizen science, and advocacy trainings, we prepare residents to lead their own environmental justice campaigns.
* Capacity Building - Drawing upon our wisdom and experience of 35 years of advocating and organizing for environmental justice, we’ll provide grassroots leaders with the knowledge and resources needed to launch campaigns and build environmental justice organizations.
A dedicated WE ACT supporter is stepping up to meet this moment by matching all donations until December 31st toward the Environmental Justice Center. By supporting the Center, you can help mobilize the residents of low-income communities of color across the US to demand environmental justice and have a seat at the table in decisions that affect their lives and the health of their neighborhoods.
