Friend,
The U.S. Senate may soon take up the HEROES Act, a COVID-19 relief package that includes important provisions to stop Education Secretary Betsy DeVos from funding yet another private school voucher plan – this time with coronavirus relief money.
To protect religious freedom and our public schools, it’s crucial that these limits in the House-passed version remain in the bill. We’ve already seen that without them, Sec. DeVos will exploit this public health crisis to promote her private school voucher agenda. It is also important that the Senate not add any new provisions to funnel taxpayer money to private, religious schools.
While there is still time, please click here to urge your senators to prevent Sec. DeVos from funneling federal relief funds to private religious schools: [link removed]
After Congress passed the first coronavirus relief package, the CARES Act, AU sounded the alarm about Sec. DeVos' plan to divert up to $180 million in public money to private, religious schools.
Before the Senate votes on this next relief package, we have a chance to ensure that Sec. DeVos’ plan to divert even more desperately needed funding for public schools fails.
Your senators need to hear from you as soon as possible, friend. Urge them to ensure that Sec. DeVos cannot exploit the coronavirus pandemic to funnel federal relief funds to private religious schools: [link removed]
During these unprecedented times, I’ve been inspired by our public school educators who have stepped up to the plate to find new ways of teaching our children.
Our public schools need our support more than ever. Our tax dollars should support them and the secular education they provide, not private religious schools.
If you agree, please contact your senators today: [link removed]
Thanks for taking action,
