We want you to be a part of this discussion
Working Families Party

John —

When I ran for District Attorney in Queens, NY last summer, I built my campaign around a coalition of local grassroots activists and community leaders. That’s because the only way candidates can win the fight for transformational reform is by using their platform to elevate the voices and center the needs of the communities they hope to represent.

Every single day, District Attorneys make the choice to prosecute or not prosecute certain crimes. The balance of prosecuting priorities — and who is on the other end of the prosecution — is the key difference.

Now, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, when it’s been proven public safety is inextricably linked to public health, it’s crucial we elect more progressive DAs who choose not to criminalize public health issues, but instead hold the people and corporate actors destabilizing our communities accountable.

That's why this Friday at 6pm ET/3pm PT, we’re hosting an open dialogue between four local community leaders and the progressive District Attorney candidates running to represent them. And we want you to be a part of the discussion. RSVP and submit your questions here!

At the Working Families Party, we’re focused on building up the diverse coalitions that reflect and empower the communities DAs are working in, and laying the groundwork for those communities to keep their elected officials accountable long after election day.

On tomorrow's livestream, community leaders in the fight against mass incarceration will ask WFP-endorsed candidates how, if elected District Attorney, they will be accountable to the communities they serve, explore their visions for public safety beyond mass incarceration, and more. The forum will feature:

  • Barbara Smith, Co-founder, the Combahee River Collective, in conversation with Matthew Toporowski, candidate for Albany County, NY District Attorney

  • Desiree Ferguson, Legal Director at the Detroit Justice Center, in conversation with Victoria Burton-Harris, candidate for Wayne County, MI District Attorney

  • Sukyi McMahon, Board Chair and Strategy Director at Austin Justice Coalition, in conversation with José Garza, candidate for Travis County, TX District Attorney

  • Trische' Duckworth, Founder and President of Survivors Speak, in conversation with Eli Savit, candidate for Washtenaw County, MI District District Attorney

See you Friday!
