Major Win for Red Wolves: $25 Million Grant for Wildlife Crossing!

We have exciting news to share with you! Thanks to your support and the tireless efforts of Wildlands Network, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has successfully secured a grant from the Wildlife Crossing Pilot Program—a program we helped advocate for in the 2021 Infrastructure Bill. This is a major win for wildlife conservation and the protection of the critically endangered red wolves in North Carolina.

Wildlands Network directly raised over $2.3 million in non-federal matching funds for the crossing project, and we inspired our partners to raise over a million additional dollars! The combined funds allowed department of transportation to apply for and receive a huge $25 million grant from the Pilot Program.

With this grant, North Carolina can now move forward with a wildlife crossing and fencing project on US 64, which is critical for reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions. By installing the right combination of fencing, we will not only boost red wolf recovery but also prevent thousands of vertebrate animals from being killed on the road each year.

Thank you for being part of this important victory. With your continued support, we can ensure more successful wildlife crossings in the future!

Your gift is more critical than ever. Thanks to a generous $50,000 matching gift from the Biophilia Foundation, every donation you make by December 31 will be doubled – increasing your impact in the fight to save the critically endangered red wolves.
