Prior to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Hryhorii was retired and spent much of his time taking care of his garden and animals: cows, goats, ducks, chickens, and more. Today, he’s rebuilding the life that he was forced to leave behind. With cash assistance from Mercy Corps, Hryhorii and his wife Mar’inka are planting garlic, onion, peppers, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. They’ve purchased a small flock of chickens and gaggle of geese and built a shed for them. They’ve purchased an incubator for eggs, a grain crusher to make fodder for the animals, and a freezer to keep his goods that he hopes to sell at local markets soon. Hryhorii’s story is one of millions of people who leave their home, their loved ones, and all of their belongings in search of safety. When conflict and disaster strike in places like Ukraine and beyond, Mercy Corps teams are there to help them recover and rebuild their lives. Our generous partner, Ripple, has given $500,000 to encourage our community of supporters to match their gift before the end of the year. Can we count on you to send TWICE the support to families in crisis now? Hryhorii and Mar’inka stayed with his sister in Kyiv until they found a new home. It had been abandoned and the fields were overgrown with weeds, but it was safe. Their neighbors gave them a few things to furnish their new home and cash assistance from Mercy Corps helped them get back on their feet. Before the year ends, make a gift that will go 2X as far to help families cope, adapt and thrive in the midst of crisis. Thank you, The Mercy Corps team |
