Measuring about 3 inches long and weighing about one-tenth of an ounce, the Calliope Hummingbird is the smallest bird in North America. Despite its tiny size, this beloved bird is able to survive cold summer nights at high elevations in the northern Rockies, and some migrate every year from Canada all the way to southern Mexico. But one thing they might not be able to survive? The climate crisis. If climate change continues unchecked, 67% of this bird’s current breeding range could be lost.
