Dear John,
What an incredible year it’s been—because of you.
All donations are tripled today only!
Your generosity and belief in our mission have driven the Nonhuman Rights Project to make tremendous progress. Together, we: -
Filed a brief in our Michigan chimpanzee rights lawsuit challenging the court to uphold their duty to protect autonomy and ensure fair application of the law. We expect an oral argument for the chimpanzees held captive at the DeYoung Family Zoo in early 2025.
-
Submitted briefs and presented oral arguments to the Colorado Supreme Court in support of the right to liberty of the elephants held captive at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo–a legal first for Colorado.
- Filed an amicus brief in New York advocating for dogs to be recognized as immediate family members in a case seeking emotional distress damages where the dog died right in front of a family member.
-
Mobilized local and national media coverage and grassroots advocacy to continue to raise awareness of the plight of the Bronx Zoo elephants and put pressure on the zoo to release Happy and Patty to a sanctuary.
- Collected over 27,400 signatures on our advocacy petitions.
- Welcomed a new Executive Director and two new board members to our growing team.
Today only, every donation will be TRIPLE matched! Donate now and help us reach more people next year.
2024 has been a year of progress and hope, thanks to your unwavering support. But there’s even more exciting progress ahead of us. Here’s a small peek at what’s ahead in 2025—with your help: -
Developing three new landmark cases: Advocating for cetaceans, elephants, and great apes subjected to unjustified confinement.
-
Exploring additional strategies: Taking advantage of developments that our work has helped spurn by investigating additional approaches that will help secure legal rights for animals.
-
Challenging anti-rights legislation: Fighting unconstitutional laws that limit judicial support for nonhuman rights.
-
Securing legislative wins: Supporting NYC’s pending legislation that would ban elephant captivity, continuing to push for Happy and Patty’s release to a sanctuary, and exploring new legislative actions.
-
Educating Decision-Makers: Deepen and refine outreach to legal professionals, lawmakers, and other legal decision-makers explaining the importance of legal rights for animals.
There are more plans we’d love to share with you, and will soon! Our vision for 2025 is ambitious—but achievable with your continued support.
