Serving in the District

Rep. Meeks at ceremony to recognize JFK Airport's historic record of $2.3 billion awarded in MWBE contracts through the JFK renovation project.

We continue to work on improving the travel experience for those visiting the state of New York. This year has marked many milestones in the JFK International Airport project. Notably, the last steel beam was placed in the new terminal six, signifying that we are one step closer to completion. As the co-chair of the JFK Redevelopment Community Advisory Council. I was proud of the historic $2.3 billion in contracts to Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE). I have been honored to serve JFK Redevelopment Community Advisory Council as an advocate for the people of Southeast Queens. To read more, click here.

Rep. Meeks at Farmers Day Celebration in Queens, NY.

I had a great time fellowshipping with the community at Farmers Day in September. I was recognized for my service and leadership in Congress. It was amazing to be able to support all the small businesses in attendance and speak to residents about democratic priorities such as lowering grocery costs and other measures that support working families.

I led a tour of Hamilton Beach, Charles Park, and the Vetros areas with the National Park Service. Joined by state and local officials, we were able to survey the grounds and discuss the resources needed for the Gateway National Recreation Area.

Around the World with Congressman Meeks

In July, I met with Haiti's acting Prime Minister, Garry Conille, during his visit to the United States. In light of the critical crossroads at which Haiti finds itself, I have been deeply engaged in efforts to restore security and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis facing the nation. The United States, in concert with international partners, must remain steadfast in its support of the Multinational Security Support Mission to Haiti to effectively bolster the Haitian national police’s efforts to address rampant gang violence. This mission is part of a broader effort to restore democratic governance and build a more prosperous future in Haiti that its people

deserve. I am fully committed to standing with the people of Haiti and the Haitian diaspora as they shape the future of their nation.

Ranking Member Meeks traveled to Barbados with a Congressional delegation led by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to celebrate Barbados’ 58th Independence Day and honor the 100th birthday of the late Shirley Chisholm, a trailblazing leader. The trip highlighted our shared Democratic values and the importance of the U.S.-Barbados bilateral relationship, from economic growth and tackling the scourge of climate change to regional security in the Caribbean. When our Caribbean neighbors are strong, it helps create more opportunities and stability for Americans too.
