Hi John,

From everyone here at Greenpeace, thank you so much for your support this year.

Together, we’ve achieved huge wins in 2024: securing a more climate-friendly government, challenging illegal oil and gas fields in court, exposing greenwashing by toxic mega-polluters, and stopping dangerous deep-sea mining in the Arctic. None of this would have been possible without you.

In this edition of your Greenpeace Round-Up, we reflect on everything we’ve accomplished together over the past year.

To celebrate having you by our side we are giving supporters an exclusive 15% discount to use on our Greenpeace shop.

We kept the pressure on Big Oil

This year we’ve kept the pressure on Big Oil and we’ve got some big news to share with you. Shell has backed down in their lawsuit against Greenpeace.

Shell sued us for millions of dollars because we peacefully protested on one of their climate-wrecking oil platforms in 2023. They thought this intimidation lawsuit would grind us down, but because of our year-long campaign, they have agreed to settle out of court instead.

This settlement shows that people power works. Thousands of supporters like you backed our fight by donating to our Stop Shell Appeal, buying a Joe Lycett t-shirt, signing our huge open letter to the CEO, sharing content on social media and calling or emailing Shell.

Thanks to you, John, we’ve been able to see off this multinational oil giant and face down one of the biggest threats to us in our 53-year history.

But while this lawsuit is over, the fight against Big Oil is far from done. Shell and other fossil fuel giants are still drilling, polluting, and driving the climate crisis. We won’t stop until they stop.

Here are some messages of support from those who stood with Greenpeace against Big Oil:

‘‘This is the best news I’ve heard all year!! So pleased my tiny contribution helped. Keep up the good work and keep on telling me about it. Well done, all at Greenpeace, for persevering and not being intimidated by the huge companies who are terrified at the swing to reusables, and the shift away from fossil fuels. It's organisations like you that can be the voice of all of us who feel powerless in the face of Big Oil.’

‘That is amazing. A brilliant result Greenpeace and to all who signed letters and took part in the protests. I honestly feared for the future of Greenpeace when Shell announced this horrific plan. Have a much happier Christmas from a very long-time supporter - think I first joined in the last 1970s. Keep going Greenpeace.’

‘That is the absolute best news. Well done Greenpeace for your commitment to trying to protect the planet and all which lives on it. The absolute best Christmas present I could have. I will continue to support Greenpeace wherever I can.’

‘Thanks for the brilliant news! How the mighty have fallen due to people's passion. Thanks for all you and all the teams do.’

We went to the Sargasso Sea

Did you know the Sargasso Sea, a vast and vital marine ecosystem better known for the legendary Bermuda Triangle, is unprotected and under threat?

This year, Greenpeace’s ship expedition uncovered the untold stories of this unique part of the ocean, home to silvery eels, baby green sea turtles, majestic whales and a golden floating rainforest.

But the beauty of the Sargasso Sea hides an alarming reality—climate change, industrial fishing and plastic pollution are putting it at risk.

Discover the fascinating science, meet passionate oceans experts from Bermuda, and learn how protecting this biodiversity hotspot could be the key to unlocking ocean recovery all around the world.

Bastille frontman Dan Smith also joined Greenpeace aboard the Arctic Sunrise to perform his song "Blue Sky & the Painter" in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle.

The era of UK coal is over

Thanks to supporters like you, the era of UK coal is over. The last coal-fired power station, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, has closed after decades of climate activism to stop polluting coal plants in the UK. And every worker leaves with a career plan to ensure a just transition.

This wouldn’t be possible without your support.

You did something phenomenal

Nearly 1,000 supporters participated in the 25-Mile Challenge this October, raising an incredible £84,000!

Participants walked, ran, swam, wheeled—and one even windsurfed—their 25 miles. It was inspiring to see this commitment to getting active for Greenpeace while raising funds to protect what they love.

“I enjoyed reconnecting with nature, it is such a wonder and so far beyond anything man-made”

Mark Newman

“I liked being part of a wonderful community of people getting active to support an important cause.”
