A new lawsuit to demand Trump's tax returns

Friend,

For the last three years, we have led the fight to get Donald Trump’s tax returns released to the public. We’ve pushed Congress, the IRS and even states to get it done. Finally we are making some serious progress.

As you know, Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin has flagrantly disregarded the long-standing law that requires him to release a person’s tax returns if Congress requests them.

Thankfully, yesterday Rep. Richard Neal, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, filed a lawsuit to force Mnuchin to comply with the demand for Trump’s tax returns. Neal’s complaint even cited as justification the findings in our report, “The Case for Congress Obtaining Trump’s Tax Returns.” [1]

This Spring we also worked with our allies in New York State to get the legislature to provide for the release of Trump’s state tax returns, should they be requested by Congress. We are now pushing Gov. Cuomo to sign the legislation into law.

It is critical that we see Trump’s tax returns before the 2020 election! The American people have a right to know:

Are any foreign, financial interests influencing Trump and his policies?

How enmeshed is Trump and the Trump organization with Russian oligarchs close to Vladimir Putin?

Are Donald Trump and his family personally benefiting from the policies he promotes and the bills that he signs into law, such as the #GOPTaxScam?

But Trump and his minions at the Treasury and Justice Departments are doing everything in their power to thwart our efforts. That’s why we have to keep up the pressure on all fronts.

Donate $5 or more to Americans for Tax Fairness to fuel our efforts in obtaining Trump’s tax returns.

It’s up to us working together to get to the bottom of this and get the truth.

Thank you,
