Merry Christmas!
Dear John,
When most people think about Christmas, they tend to imagine things like Christmas trees, being surrounded by loved ones, special food, presents or snow (especially if they’re near Truth & Liberty headquarters in Colorado, where we have already gotten LOTS of snow)!
And when asked to give one word that best describes Christmas, most people would say, “peace,” “joy,” or “love.” Few would think to say “truth” or “liberty.” And yet, the real meaning of Christmas is very much about truth and about liberty.
When Jesus stood before Pilate at the end of his earthly ministry, he said, “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” John 18:37. In John 8:32, He said that when we abide in His Word, we “shall know the truth and the truth will make [us] free.” It’s like we often say, there can be no freedom apart from truth. And there is no greater truth than Jesus Himself, the Savior of the World. John 14:6.
The virgin birth of Jesus was an act of God’s deep, unconditional love. Jesus came to set us free from the law of sin and death (Rom. 8:2 ([link removed] ) ). As recipients of this indescribable gift, we seek to reach a lost and dying world with truth so that it might also have liberty.
This holiday, we honor the Lord’s birth by continuing to stand for the God-given rights of all people, especially the freedom to worship Him all through the year, in spirit and in truth, and to tell others about Emmanuel – God with Us.
At Truth and Liberty, we will be offering a Christmas prayer for all of you, our fellow Christian soldiers, that Christ’s joy and peace would fill your hearts as you meditate on the profound goodness of God that was found wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a Bethlehem manger so many years ago.
